Our RMBIers
While taking engineering courses in my first year, I wanted to experience diverse areas and gain a broader perspective. Then I came across the unique interdisciplinary program RMBI, in which I could expose myself to new fields like finance, statistics, and data analytics.
Exploring multiple areas was fun yet challenging. I thought it was critical to discover the intersection of these areas and started looking for opportunities in financial industries to gain hands-on experiences. Starting from an international bank to a financial advisory firm, then back to an asset management company and moving on to a WealthTech company, I learned about the components that make up the overall industry landscape as well as the essential skills needed to excel in these areas.
RMBI provides a unique curriculum that has set a foundation to adapt to different roles and areas. The courses help students build both qualitative and quantitative abilities, allowing students to remain flexible and resilient where steep learning curves are required. Some of the curriculum-related work that I have involved in were data analysis with Python, credit risk assessment, regulatory case review, and market research.
The best part of learning for me at RMBI was that I could find out what I am passionate about and talented at. From that, I can set new goals and gain motivation in developing my future career path. The main key takeaway from the program is just to go for every opportunity even it may not be in my best interests. I have been taking initiatives to join different corporate webinars, academic programs, and networking events, to further enrich my learning experiences. There are always areas that I did not know before and having a diverse experience often helped me a lot as time passed.
I would highly recommend the RMBI program to any students who want to learn and experience in multiple areas: finance, risk management, mathematics, FinTech, and data analytics during their undergraduate studies. The program advisors and committee members are supportive in helping students identify their interests and develop career goals. Furthermore, there are many exclusive extracurricular opportunities such as RMBI Newsletter Committee, Mentoring Program, and Capstone Project. You will benefit from these activities if you are a driven and enthusiastic student looking for multidisciplinary experiences.
